Time to replace these 'ugly' lights?

Wall lights are 'nicer' in the way they cast light, and are a nice 'accent', and ceiling lights are more 'practical' in the way they fill a space with light, whilst also being a feature.Nothing at ALL wrong with these lights! It is 100% a personal matter.Did your estranged family member appreciate you were in a period property? And, what's their house like? If they have a genuinely good 'eye' for this sort of stuff, then use them
OK thanks. The family member knows it's a period property. The actual term they used to describe our lights is 'minging'.
Another vote for changing the bulbs to filiment style, with maybe flickering ones for the wall lights.2 -
Why are you listening to someone who so clearly doesn't have regard for your feelings?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I quite like them.
Especially the black picks up the black door fittings nicely.
You could work with that and pick up the accent elsewhere so they fit in better.
The doors etc are quite plain lines. Perhaps something simpler.
If like the first glass shade, a touch of black highlight in that.
Having said that they are too fussy for me with all 3.
And yes, one or the other to come on at any one time.
I have 2 pendants in a small hall so I removed one bulb. Still bright. No one notices.
Don't be influenced by someone else's taste. I have a friend who had a lovely new kitchen but a comment by a friend staying said it was all wrong because it was too far to go to the toaster!
She was desperate to redo the whole thing . Me I'd have suggested he found somewhere else to stay for free that was more to his liking.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I get your point, the comment was a bit rude.
However, another way to see it is, maybe there’s an element of truth to their bluntness. For instance, other visitors may think the lights are ugly yet not say it. Anyway, I haven’t made any rash decisions, their comment was made a couple of years ago.

Yeah, our lounge has very similar looking lampshades to the second photo, except ours are plain and don't have the pattern effect

I definitely wouldn't call them ugly or minging, my main complaint about them if they were mine would be that the ceiling light looks to be hanging down very low and I'd constantly be banging my head on it. Also, 2 of the pendants and 3 wall lights might be a bit too much and something simpler may look better, but possibly your hallway is massive and needs that amount of lighting.
I'd also agree with the previous posters who suggested replacing the bulbs with the filament style.0
