Down at the Farm is a family run visitor attraction based in Houghton le Spring which opened in 2007. Home to lots of friendly animals, the farm is a seasonal attraction open between March and October each. Owners Will and Catherine Weightman originally set up the farm for their two young daughters who are now grown up and helping on the farm too!

The farm is home to lots of friendly farm animals from pigs, goats, sheep, cows, donkeys, ponies, fancy pheasants, rabbits, guinea pigs to name a few! There are lots of activities to enjoy at different times of the season from bottle feeding new-born lambs, holding fluffy chicks, bunny brushing, donkey grooming! Some of our favourite animals are Tobylerone the Boar, Bethany the Donkey and Betty the Pygmy Goat and her baby kids.

Fancy meeting the cows? Then hop on a tractor ride to the cow field which boasts incredible views of the North East and beyond. Our herd are a mix of different rare breed cattle from shorthorns to belted galloways. You might be lucky and spot a baby calf!

Aside from the animals, the farm has lots and lots of outdoor play too – from bouncy pillows, adventure playgrounds, Dinosaur maze, our brand new sandpit galleon ship, zip lines and of course each paying child receives a bumpy barrel ride as part of their ticket! In the Summer time we also host garden games to keep your little ones amused – who’s up for sack racing or welly throwing?

Fancy a bite to eat? Visit our marquee café where you can stock up on food, snacks, drinks, ice cream or there are plenty of places to bring a picnic too!

Whether it’s your first time to the park or you’re a season ticket holder – a fun day out is always guaranteed at the farm!
