eBay simple delivery restricted Items

Options
So it appears that using simple delivery, if you are restricted to a courier like Royal Mail, eBay fails to recognize items that face restrictions with the chosen courier, Royal Mail. So the items are large power tool batteries that would be stopped via Royal Mail but possible through other couriers.

Just wondering if anyone using simple delivery has anything else on a restricted list by a courier that eBay is totally oblivious to the impact on the courier selected for restricted items.

Is it prohibited on the (EDIT: Royal Mail's) list of restrictions for business customers, just out of interest?

I know you don't have a business contract with them but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that either it's covered in the same way as oversized/underpaid items are supposed to be, by whatever agreement eBay may have with them.  Although I rather think it far more likely eBay just haven't thought of this scenario tbh.

This was a new account private seller and that's the option provided was Royal Mail where usually a Yodel no issue delivery pick-up.  It seems they really haven't applied a list on what can and can't be sent. Worth keeping an I on for other items.

eBay restricted Vs Royal Mail restricted are similar but it has floors between the two.

Oh I meant on RM's list of prohibited/restricted items for business sellers.  Just if eBay had some sort of contract with them that meant the restrictions were different - for instance Hermes never used to allow liquids of any description including creams for private customers, but when we bought toiletries from a particular retailer they always came via Hermes so evidently their commercial contract allowed them to send creams and liquids.

But as I said, they may well not even have thought of it.

I just came on here to mention (& then saw your thread), I listed some new unwanted fancy bath salts and was met with Simple Delivery is not available for this item.

I can't think why bath salts would be restricted unless opened. It amazes me why they rushed this through and gave no notice or real testing.

@Spoonie_Turtle I used to have a business account on eBay selling phone equipment, mostly extenders for phones and TV equipment  Batteries, cameras, SIM cards, memory cards + a record website shop within Popsike.  I don't know what's going on with eBay nowadays, but it is probably heading for tough times and will probably sold off to investors in time.

Why is it that if ebay are involved with the postage, it's more difficult to edit the price.

If I hover the mouse over any listing price for most of my items, I can easily edit it but the items with Simple Delivery, you have to go to edit listing on the left hand side, scroll down to the price and then scroll to the bottom and push save .. far more awkward

Because eBay makes money from Simple Delivery by acting as an intermediary for postage, taking a cut from the postage costs, and potentially earning interest on held funds. So they don't want you thinking for yourself because it eats their stand-and-deliver D ick Turpin approach.
