Cabin wireless access point - splitter needed

Options
Hi, I have an Ethernet wire which runs from my house router to my cabin into a wireless access point. There are no Ethernet ports to connect a cable to my laptop to in the WAP. Is there such a thing as an Ethernet splitter that I can put between the the cable and the WAP which will allow one side to go to the WAP and the other into a laptop? Or will a switch do it? Thanks

A network switch is exactly what you need, any cheap one off Amazon will do the job usually only around £10.

Ethernet from house into any port on the switch & the AP into another leaving the rest for you to do as you please (assuming that the wireless AP has its own dedicated power supply)

You can get 4 and 5 port hubs/switches - Fairly small devices, so don't take up much shelf space.
You may well need a crossover cable/adaptor for the incoming ethernet cable.

Whilst I understand the terminology can sometimes get blurred especially with people less familiar with networking it’s worth pointing out that you should be looking for a switch, not a hub.

Unless your equipment is seriously outdated, there’s no reason you’d need a crossover cable or adaptor. A standard patch cable (which you almost certainly already have to your cabin) will do the job just fine.

Not been needed for any ethernet switches this Century.  They've auto-sensed since, it seems, forever.

Will mean an extra device and power supply box using another mains socket.

NB an old router-modem can be set up to provide both network switch and wifi AP if the OP has one lying around. (May  not be quite as energy efficient though),

One of these will do what you need -

They are small - about 70mm x 80mm - so can be hidden under a desk or wall mounted.  Until today they were selling for about £8.90 on amazon, now £9.24.  The price might drop again in a few days.

Why not just connect the laptop wirelessly to the WAP?
