Many people leave the edges unboarded for reasons of ventilation and/or difficulty of access plus unlikely to be used right into the eaves.0

If there is any chance you will use the loft to store 'stuff', then it is wise to board it over using boards on support legs as described above. This prevents the 'stuff' from compressing the insulation, which would reduce its effectiveness.The comments I post are my personal opinion.
