in Cutting tax
Hi, I had a shortfall for 2008-09 and 2009-10 that I was eligible to make voluntary contributions for. I did so in December 2024 and today received a letter from HMRC with the below, dated 7 July.
As I understand it, it shows that I now have 52 weeks for both years (36+16 and 52).
I logged in to my HMRC account and looked up the state pension record and it still shows a shortfall on these two years.
1. Have I interpreted the letter correctly in thinking that my record should now show full years on both 2008-09 and 2009-10?
2. Does it take time for them to update their systems? Perhaps I just need to be patient and check again in a few weeks?
Thanks in advance!

I paid voluntary class 2 NI as part of my sole trader self assessment for the years 2022-23 and 2023-24 and they still don't show on my NI record for state pension purposes. But, a 14 week credit for carer's allowance in 2023-24 does show.
As already suggested it has to be different departments, DWP & HMRC, not talking to each other.
As I've got another 4 years before claiming my state pension I intend to contact DWP a year before and sort it out.1
