  • Thought I'd add my 2pworth!
I use fleece liners, bought them from ebay because I'm a sucker (OH went mad that I spent money on someone cutting out shapes for me). Sometimes still use paper too cos you can flush it. The fleece is really good though and dries really quickly so you only need a few. Also it means the wee is wicked through to the nappy itself and baby hasn't got a soggy bum. I dry pail with a few drops of teatree and wash every 2/3days. Dessert spoonful of washing powder, same of eco laundry bleach powder and the ecoball goes in the machine. Wash at 60 and they come out lovely. No pre-wash.
Have given up on totsbots now though cos he grew out of them so quickly, now using coolababys from ebay, so much easier and dry much quicker.
Now just trying to find the best place to sell my old totsbots to get the most money for them! Bought them off ebay (do you see the theme?) but you can't sell them used anymore.
  • I used to soak nappies in Milton then boil wash the next day.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I wet-pail. I rinse off any poop into a bucket in the tub with a hand-held shower attachment. I use tea tree oil in the buckets and there's no smell if washed every other day. They get wrung out into the pail first then into the machine. The paper liners I use can be washed with the nappies if they've just been wee'd on, otherwise they get flushed.

When mine were babies I used terry squares (with nappy pin & rubber pants, we didn't have these new-fangled washables back then:D). The paper liner was dropped down the loo and the terry sloshed around when I flushed, then the nappy went in a bucket that was filled with cold water & napisan.

One advantage to terry squares is you can boil or bleach them and after they've been re-used for all your kids they make great dusters, mopper-uppers etc.

for white cottons which you intend to boil wash then cheap bleach will do the trick! I found the best thing though was Napisan. also Biotex is very good. the last two are kinder on fabrics and skin.
  • napisan would do both but if you just want them keeping hygienic while pailing them then a drop or 2 of t-tree and lavender would do the trick
Im sure ive read another poster used a own brand disinfectant that said it was safe for nappy pails, maybe read a few different bottles when out shopping next

No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thought.
Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.

  • Or dry- pail, then rinse and spin with a touch of tea tree oil before you wash.
Remember that tea tree oil is very powerful, so you can, if you like, wash normal things with the nappies after the tea- tree rinse. :money:

FWIW I found that soaking them STANK, dry- pailing was much more pleasant. lavender oil works well too. And I know that 'they' say that nappies last longer if they're soaked but mine did two children birth to potty easily and would probably have done a third. They're now floor cloths and scooter- wipes.:D
