Someone not realising wheel bearings need to be packed with grease when fitting if you want them to last?

From the brake drum reference it could be that this is a rear wheel? More than likely the complete hub assembly was replaced. If so, then there's no way to pre grease the bearing. That would/should have been done during manufacture. Possibly Chinese aftermarket tat?

If Halfords suspect the part is at fault they will be returning it and claiming against the supplier/manufacturer. They might also suspect it was too tight or too lose as a reason for failure. It sounds like they are putting things right, there is a limit to what you can claim and clothing is pushing it. Overtime you may have worked - really?

Many years ago we travelled from Scotland to London. Near Heathrow the car started making a loud noise.

Called out RAC and they diagnosed worn brake discs.

Took us to  the nearest brand garage and sweet talked them into fixing it right away. ( saved them costs as we had recovery cover)

The car had been serviced before the journey so they gave us the worn discs and told us to complain to the garage that did the service  as they should have been changed.

This was the authorised dealer that we bought our cars from.

It  turned out our  brand service manager was ill and another brand one was covering.

The mechanic had  told him the discs should be checked but his usual brand did not do that at that  service so he said no.

They should have been checked and changed. The garage were very apologetic and recompensed us.

    Always have recovery after that.
