Hi I'm hoping somebody can help me.

I've not been able to drive since March and my policy is due to run out in 14 days.

I don't expect to be driving anytime soon with medical problems but will I lose my 20+ years No claims if I don't renew in 14 days? I was hoping I could leave it another month or two as I'm not going to be driving anytime soon.

    And leave your car uninsured?

What if you need someone to drive you somewhere and your car is the only option?

What if it's stolen?  That would concern me more than saving on a month's worth of insurance.

To answer the question first... no you dont lose it. Most insurers will accept an NCD that is up to 2 years old. Occasionally you may find one that accepts up to 3 years. So you have to have a much bigger gap before its lost.

Remember the continuous insurance requirements so if you arent going to insure it then it must be SORNed and taken off the road.

For the later there is Laid Up insurance.

Having a comp policy on the car in itself generally wouldnt be sufficient to allow a random other person to drive the car, Any Driver policy are very rare in the personal lines space.

OP, might be worth just selling the car if you won't be driving anytime soon. As above, if you don't insure it, you need to go online and SORN it. You can also cancel the VED (road tax) after you've done that. If you are keeping the car though, and it has any significant value, if it was me, I'd just re-insure it. If you don't insure it and it gets pinched off your drive, you won't get anything.

Very much depends on the car and the OP's attitude to risk. If I had a brand new Range Rover I'd want to make sure it was insured against theft whether I was driving it or not; if it was a 15 year old Focus I'd probably rather live with the risk of it being nicked than pay a year's insurance that I didn't need to pay.

I haven't left the house since March so that won't happen. I've been started on antipychotic meds so don't want to risk it.

My partners car is always parked behind.

The cars worth about 18k and the Mrs car is always parked behind on the drive.

I don't mind starting the insurance I just ee it as a waste of money with it not moving atm.

When is any time soon? If you're meaning some indeterminate time in a matter of months then I'd just insure it again.

If it could be a year or more (if ever), then unless it's an old car at the bottom of the depreciation curve I'd be inclined to sell it now and buy another one when you are able to drive. That way you'll save on maintenance, depreciation etc, and not need to worry about the implications of a car being sat unused long term.

Hopefully within the next month or so. I've not been told not to drive I'm just doing it until I'm comfortable with new meds.

Cars about 18k bought last year then health deteriorated.

I will most likely just insure it again. It just feels like I'm wasting money with it sat there.
