Hi,
My daughter who is just turned 4 has her DLA approved. This is paid into my account being her dad.
I have a question regarding Disabled Child element of UC. I am not geting any UC as I am not eligibile for it.
Can i still apply for Disable Child element of UC (without having to get UC) or it only comes as part of the UC. you cant have it on its own?
Hope my question makes sense. Sorry for the confusion
Thanks,
Waqas

No it only comes as part of UC.
Having the disabled child element and a carers element ( which you may be eligible for) may make you eligible for UC if you weren't previously as it would raise your overall/ total UC award.2 -
Try a benefits calculator for your new circumstances, to estimate any UC entitlement

I am still not able to claim UC due to savings i have. I am getting carers allowance as part of Child Benefit gets added to my National Insurance Credits.
Also another question,
Housing benefit for disabled child - I suppose also comes as part of Universal Credit? for which i suppose i cant claim given i cant have UC. Our house is not rented but on mortgage just for clarity.0 -
For working age people, any entitlement to housing costs would be via UC. As you cannot claim UC there is no housing support. In any case a mortgage is not paid but there is a thing called Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI) but you do not qualify for UC and it is a loan which has to be repaid.Carers Allowance is nothing to do with Child Benefit.1

As long as the child gets the middle or highest rate of care component of DLA, that you provide care of over 35 hrs/ week and earnings are below £196/ week.1 -
