One statement in the article I noticed that is incorrect in our experience, is that if you receive FIT generation payments, as we do since we installed in 2012, you cannot switch that payment to another provider. There is no need to switch it to whoever you buy your electricity from, but you can if you wish
We were with EDF for our FIT, with deemed export payments, until 18 months back, at which point, as we were Octopus customers, we switched the whole FIT plus deemed export payment to Octopus.
We did not initially want to switch the whole FIT, just the export payment to get the Outgoing Octopus 15p rate, but EDF said that was too much bother for them and we would be better to switch the whole thing. Once switched to Octopus, and now having a smart meter, we could see that we were indeed exporting more than half of our production.
EDF were usually quick at paying the FIT every 3 months, but Octopus is even faster. Our export payment is credited to our ordinary electricity account every month.0
