Car Recall fix delayed - some advice would be welcome

My car had its first MOT early June this year.  A recall was flagged.  I booked the car in to have the issue sorted, (couldn't get slot until July), but the dealer has, with less than 12  hours notice,  cancelled the appt. and said earliest slot is now in October, stating parts issue.  The recall is due to fuel line chaffing.  I do, on occasion smell petrol, but there is no discernible leak.

What should I be looking out for/doing as this is the first time I have encountered this issue.

Well you could try another garage.
But if it's a parts issue, awaiting stock. Then all you can do is wait.

They might not be able to change the line - but they can still have a look and see if the chafing is actually causing a problem.

If it's one of the small Fords, then the issue seems to be fairly minor, and just a protective sleeve being chafed by a bracket. It may well be easy to bend the existing bracket slightly as a stopgap - or your car may have the faulty bracket but no signs of chafing.

If it had chafed to the point there was an actual leak, you would see a pool of fuel forming under the car, and you would wonder why your consumption had risen.

That's not going to source the parts any quicker though..............

If there's been a major recall hardly surprising there's currently a shortage. Given the nature of manufacturing being Just In Time.

The recall was in March. That was four months ago.

Thank you all for your comments.  @Hoenir - that was the most annoying thing - to be told the appt. was cancelled the evening before, as I had set aside time to take the car in. @Grey_Critic many thanks for the Ford CS details.

    Oh well, October it is.

The UK implementation is Just Too Late.....

My Suzuki had a recall for the fuel pump seizing if you used e10. It was booked in weeks in advance, and just like the OP, the day before they cancelled, as the part hadn't arrived.

Because of Just Too Late it arrived the day after! (But they then didn't have any timeslots to do it for weeks- good job I never allow e10 near any of my cars!)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
