Sometimes powering off things, counting to 20, and powering on again can help them figure things out.0

In days of old I'd grab the door both sides near the top and give it a good tug.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Got this from a google search regarding Smeg DDC6-1:-
"If your dishwasher won't open, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take: (start by unplugging it and leaving it off the power source for at least 10 minutes. If unplugging isn't possible, turning off the breaker will work, but it still needs to be off for 10 minutes.)
Power Issues: Make sure the dishwasher is properly plugged in and receiving power. Sometimes, a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse can cause the dishwasher to malfunction.
Door Latch or Lock Issues: The door latch or lock mechanism may be stuck due to a buildup of detergent or debris. Cleaning the latch carefully might help. Additionally, gently wiggling the door or handle can sometimes release a stuck latch.
Control Panel or Electronic Issues: If the dishwasher has an electronic control panel, it might be experiencing a glitch. Try resetting the dishwasher by unplugging it or turning off its circuit for a minute before turning it back on.
Child Lock Feature: Some dishwashers have a child lock feature to prevent accidental opening. Ensure that this feature hasn't been activated unintentionally.
Door Seal Issues: A stuck or damaged door seal can sometimes prevent the door from opening. Inspect the seal for any obstructions or damage.
Water in the Bottom of the Dishwasher: If there's water remaining in the dishwasher, it may not open as a safety feature. Check for drainage issues.
Mechanical Fault: There could be a mechanical fault with the locking mechanism. If this is suspected, it might be best to contact a professional technician for repairs.
Recent Wash Cycle: If a cycle has just been run, the door may not open immediately"

Thanks everyone. I had to call an appliance repair person in the end. There was a little button inside that still enabled the door to be opened. It turns out the handle had developed a fault and the plastic part needs replacing. The part will only be a tenner, but they need to order it.
