Both are very reasonable at just over £20pm.If you go direct to a mobile phone connection, they'll sell you a data SIM contract including a suitable router. The router will provide WiFi and may also have a wired network port on the back. But that's not always the Moneysaving option, and this is MSE.Frozen_up_north said:Check out Scancom on Amazon for data SIM cards, no contract and around half the cost of fibre broadband. An example router would be this one (there are many other options):This way you're paying £40 or so for the router but the data SIM might only be £75 for 22 months like this:That's a total of £115 for 22 months, just over £5 a month on average (and cheaper than a £20/mo contract after 6 months).Interesting.What kind of speed could be expected from that?Ta.0

Mobile data speed depends on number of users, distance from the site and whether the router/site is 4G or 5G. In the UK most “5G” is a 5G radio connected to a 4G back plane and is nowhere near as good as it may appear.
I haven’t noticed any significant difference between 4G and 5G when I switch 5G on/off on my iPhone, both with O2 and 1p Mobile (EE).
As I type this, a speed check through the NX200 (EE) indoors is giving 85 Mb/s down and 5 Mb/s upload.
Going into the garden my iPhone (1p Mobile on EE) gives 210 Mb/s down and 15 Mb/s upload.1 -
Do you need 75 Mb? I'm in a remote area and have a wireless internet signal beamed to a small dish on the house - only get 30 Mb and use it for streaming, WFH :- so teams meetings, vpn, and several smart devices with no issues. I have a 4g sim router (talkmobile because vodafone is only good signal where I am) as a WFH emergency back up but rarely use it.2

I think he needs to sell the flat and buy something else that can accommodate modern living.
Has the question of whether BB can be fitted into the house been raised with either the leaseholders or any BB provider?
It seems that every solution hits a brick wall (literally) without even trying.

I purchased a Huawei router from CEX, fitted a voda data SIM and away I went. I use around 750 GB data pm, speeds can vary from 20 to 90mb/pm. I can stream to several HD simultaneously no issues for around £14pm deal.

Via the 4G router and Scancom SIM I'm getting about 10 Mbps, which doesn't sound very impressive until I tell you that the iD Mobile (also Three's network) SIM in my phone is only getting 4Mbps.When my son was using the router in his student flat, six of them could share it and it was good enough most of the time.N.
