    Saying that, it does say that they MAY allow the policy to run for another 28 days so you can put a replacement car on the policy so I guess this is what they used for you.      I've never heard of any insurance company doing that before.
    I believe the most common outcome is that the existing policy is transferred to the replacement vehicle with any premium adjustment applied accordingly.  Some will require that the transfer to the replacement vehicle happens within a defined period.

    The car was declared written off on 12th may and the new car was added to the policy on 27th June so more than 28 days.

    But as the other driver,s  insurance paid for the write off/ claim surely this should not affect the person who wrote this post ,yes they have to pay this years premiums over the 12 months but should the new car not be added with the small additional premium added to the monthly payment.

    This was how I read it
    The fact they are asking for both says to me that the OP policy paid out not the other insurer
