    Cheers.

I'm sure that is a big relief for the OP.
However, where a non-disclosure is inadvertent

BTW - how does the industry tell waht is inadvertent.
or could this be carte-blanch for everyone to under insure and then say "Ohhh dear....I didn't realise that's you meant by permanent........." etc.
  • Hi, thanks for your responses.

Nobody else was involved in the accident...just me.

The think that annoys me is that my girlfriend contacted the insurance company to add me as an additional driver, but they never asked for clarification of the use of the car for the additional driver...only ever the primary policy holder. Thus, she didn't know that it may invalidate the policy.

Even in the terms and conditions when adding an additional driver there is no questioning of the additional driver's usage of the vehicle. It only seems to apply to the primary policy holder.

Oh well, will have to see what happens

Hmm. Although technically the onus is on the insured to inform the insurer of the usage, it's pretty poor show for the insurer to not to specifically ask re: changes in use/mileage when an additional driver is requested.

I have been told by other people that the usage has to be the same
e.g. you cannot add a named driver for business if the main driver is social, domestic and pleasure.

I don't know if this is all insurance companies or some but certainly some people here have had this problem (a cohabiting couple that weren't married).

Therefore if it wasn't even an option then it might be an explanation for why they didn't ask.

It's not normally a problem to have business use for a named driver only.

And if it was not an option in this case it would be even more vital to check it, so that the policyholder could be informed that they need to look for a more suitable policy.
