Where have I said I've had 2 businesses.peteuk said:
So you had small business since pre Covid and struggled post lockdown, you’ve had a years start up with UC and now because your still struggling the MIF has been applied. UC isn’t there to prop up your failing business, it’s to support you. Take it as a hint, if your business isn’t supporting you time to look for employment. Easier said than done I know and your circumstances haven’t been explored. But since lockdown in 2022, your had two businesses and it has failed to provide an income for you and your family.cookie111 said:hi,
Is it correct that our payments stop completely after 12 months.
myself & my wife both have small businesses & both have struggled to get things back up & running since lockdown.
ive run my business over 30years & its had its ups & downs.
So i went in to UC & they said thats it youve had your 12months & we use your minimum income floor as your income if you dont reach it. & said if you both get that or above you wont get UC anyway, We have an 11 year old daughter, so things are getting a bit tight financially.
i was just wondering is this correct or do i need to speak to someone.
thanks.
I've had 1 business for over 30 years & I'm 60 year old. So yes it's easier said than done. Especially when you live in the middle of nowhere.0 -

Youve said you and your wife are self employed, hence the the two MIF applied. I guess I saw it as two buisnesses. But yes your right, it could be one buisess. Youve had it for 30 yrs and now its not providing you enought for the two of you to life... time to get a job!cookie111 said:

Totally agree, as i have mentioned in a previous post, But as a warning for others, UC is not there to prop up a failing business. If you run a business for 30 yrs ensure you protect your future to some degree.cookie111 said:yep really easy to just get a job at 60 year old......
As noted the OP has be afforded a years start up, regardless of the fact the the business has been running for 20+ years. Folllowing which the MIF applies. Be careful as being self employed and claim UC doesnt always go hand in hand.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.
