Have a smart meter for electricity, is there any point in getting one for gas?

Earlier this year, after about 12 months of battling, we got a smart meter installed. The installer only fitted the electiciry meter, left gas alone.
We are happy, really, that we can now use a smart tarrif with Octopus.
It's not much of a chore to manually send gas meter readings, and I have a nagging doubt that if we book a gas meter replacement they will muck up the electricity one. Am I missing any reason to have the gas meter updated?
Thanks

Tracker is (I think) the only smart gas tariff.
I've been on Tracker for 4(?) years now and it's saved me quite a bit of money.
I don't know about Octopus, but some suppliers require smart meters as a precondition for joining their fixed tariffs.

If happy to read own - unless want to take wholesale exposure on Tracker to save vs cap style rates savings might be limitted.

But maybe dual fuel fixes also require smart for both meters.

However problems with gas meter batteries and in particular comms hubs communication are not exactly rare events mentioned here (*) - but better tech is now available in the form of dual band han and even in some cases alt han being used (using mains wiring to place a plug in han extender adjascent / closer to gas meters) to solve that.  If can persuade your supplier to fit.

(*) How far apart are your gas and electric meters, how many doors / walls etc in the way ?  Matters in terms of what tech you need.

We're you expecting both meters to be upgraded when supplier only did electric, Id instinctively expect a different skill set, so fitter (but have no gas) -  if so we're you told gas likely wouldn't communicate ?

PS as such your new smart gas might need new electric/comms hub pairing or at least new comms hub.
