Maybe try running the details through GoCOmpare or similar, that will give an idea of prices available at renewal anywayRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

Audi Insurance is just a white label arrangement, at the moment its with UK Insurance (aka Direct Line and as of this week part of Aviva) and on the 9th July it will be LV= (part of the Allianz group). The change only impacts policies quoted on or after that date, all existing policies or those quoted before the 9th will remain with UK Ins until the end of their life.ButterCheese said:The only real way to know is to wait until Allianz have taken over (or whatever is happening) and then see what they quote. You then accept or refuse their price. Other than that you don't have an option for your son to be a named driver on the car.0 -
Oh wow, you are a very trusting parent.Urbanbuff said:My 21 year old son passed his driving practical on monday and got his licence today.
Just speculating how much would it cost (to add him onto my policy as named driver)
<snip>
The car I have got is A6 2023 on PCP
Can't say I'd be the same (but then I wrote off my first car into a tree while speeding and swerving showing off to friends... total idiot).
Of course I'm sure your 21 year old son isn't like I was, but then I expect every parent would say that.
In any case, not really much you can do except try LV in a week, though I personally would just wait till he gets a normal first time car like a Corsa or a Clio, or something.
Know what you don't3 -
Actually its not. Not even the A4 and VW Passat are equivalent any more, they stopped sharing platform in 2006 so at least 2 generations of each have gone in different directions. They are the same size and share the same parent company and some parts.ontheroad1970 said:
An A6 is just a rebadged Passat. Starts with an i4 2 litre engine. They aren't all 3 litre v6s. OP - what trim level is your A6? Which engine?Car_54 said:OP, don’t you think letting a driver with no experience loose on an Audi A6 might be a very high risk?
I’m sure he’ll have no problem getting insurance on a sensible car. At a price.2 -
They are now on the MLB Evo platform originally developed for the Touareg. They use the standard shared engines, transmissions and electronics which are common across all VAG vehicles. VAG basically changes the trims and badges, then sells the cars at different price points, there is nothing wrong with that, the cars are fundamentally good cars, but they are not engineered differently to any of the other VAG vehicles (well apart from the ones that they buy from Ford and rebadge).paul_c123 said:

So they're the same as the Lamborghini Temerario? Or is that one of the rebadged fords?MattMattMattUK said:

Did you read the Wikipedia page closely? The MLB (and MLB Evo) platform were developed by Audi. Audi have their own development team. Audi A4/A5/A6/A7/A8 and the related SUVs all use a longitudinal engine layout with the engine ahead of the front wheels and gearbox, driving either front wheels or all wheel drive. It is only the Touareg (no other Volkswagens) which share this platform. Bentley, Porsche and Lamborghini also use this platform for their SUVs.MattMattMattUK said:

This layout, is well known in the motor trade for being a PITA to work on (Audi service position - remove front end). Quite different to the transverse layout of all VW models (except the Touareg). This alone will affect insurance premiums.0 -
It's not unusual for insurers not to want to insure new drivers. As someone else said, they all have their own risk profiles and he doesn't fit theirs. It won't make any difference to how available insurance is for him if/when he gets his own car, as long as it's not something powerful or flashy.For what it's worth, we've had more than one newly-qualified driver on a policy with LV, but that was on an older, less powerful car than yours. They wouldn't cover the same new drivers on my XC90, so I still wouldn't be too confident about them covering your son in your A6.0
