British Gas - Rebilling
Options
Hi first time posting and hoping this forum can help me with my British Gas debarcle sorry if lengthy !
I was on a BG dual fuel tariff paying monthly direct debit.
In February 2024 changed to an EV tarrif due to getting electric car.
8th May 2024 got a bill covering period 17/03/23- 08/05/24. Bill showed EV breakdown and no queries. I had accrued credit from DD so bill paid.
16th May 2024 get another bill from BG which shows no EV tariff said was error ignore and bill 8th May stands. (Off note BG changed my electric meter on 16th April ensured it was showing 2reading one for Ev)
16th August 2024 receive further bill query it again as no EV readings. Told issue with meter readings not receiving EV would escalate and put bill
on hold.
16th August 2024 receive further bill query it again as no EV readings. Told issue with meter readings not receiving EV would escalate and put bill
on hold.
Fast forward complaint made to BG no resolution no bills (still paying DD) resulted in being escalated to ombudsman in December 2024.
January 2025 ombudsman found in my favour BG part of remedy had to provide accurate bill and sort out meter readings.
Mid March 25 changed providers still no bills. Had accumulated good amount of credit by continuing DD which BG retained.
June 2025 receive final bill from BG billing me for the period 17th November - 15 March 2025. I queried why I was rebilled for the period 17/11/23- 08/05/24. Was told it was only way they could get the correct readings by going back to 17th November.
I queried that I was billed twice and they said they have not done cancelling out previous bills and re billing but the maths does not add up!
At start 17th November 2023 I was in credit £500. Between December 23-Mar 25 paid £2500 in direct debits. Paid £190 compensation from ombudsman. Final bill sent June 2025 £2368 however they are saying I am in debit and owe £749.
They have tried to bamboozle me advising that the unusual way in which one of bills was cancelled in May 24 and how they can’t show credits correctly but that I owe them money which I absolutely fail to see.
Ombudsman has closed case as BG has finally complied with the remedy providing me a bill.
Firstly can’t understand why they went back to November 2023 and rebilled from this period should they have done this.
Second any advice how I should proceed in challenging the bill as I’ve already gone round in circles for over 12 months to get a bill!
Thanks for taking time to read.

Welcome to the forum. This is all going to come down to meter readings, tariffs and payments. It should be possible to unpick what's going on and spot any errors but that's going to require that you share a lot more details of your bills. If you're uncomfortable sharing that sort of info on the internet, you might be able to get your local CAB to go through your bills with you, face to face.N.
