At the movement we are in consultation about my job role.
I'm a social care officer in a care home I work 22.5 hrs pw
Under the new plans the local authority want to do away with my job role completely and have just one role that of the care assistant.
The difference between the jobs is I do meds care planning review am falls champion , you also lead the shift and liase with doctors nurses ect. All this will now fall on the care assistant.
It's a done deal but they still have to consult us begining of October is when this happens. We have been asked about voluntary redundency I'm not taking that I have 21 years service first time in 22 years if no job will be unemployed.
I will stick it out till October and if I have not found another job then they can make me redundant. I cannot be redeployed to a care assistant and it's 2 pays grades below me but I can apply for it off my own back we have been told that we can apply for the job but would then have to be interview if at all.
It's just so confusing we have meeting with manager on Monday what sort of questions should I be asking I've never been in this position before.
Oh and they are wanting us to train up the care assistants that will be doing my job

Also would like to ask whether your on a permanent contract fixed or temp when being considered for a job role can they use your sickness record against you when offering hours or roles ie you have chronic kidney disease but have had illness because of that and childcare issues I'm thinking more for nightshift workers but can include daystar0
-
A known poor sick record with above average absences will never help anyone being considered for employmentIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1
-
Ok not sure about the sickness I was asking for a colleague I have little to no trust in my employer to be truthful from past experiences but thanks for reply.
Do you have any suggestions on what to ask re redundency?0 -
Are you a member of a union?
Presumably there will always be vacancies for care assistants so do not voluntarily apply before redundancy.
Most managers do what they are told as they wwish to hang on to their own jobs at times of channge.
With your knowledge and skills there should be a number of posts out there that you can apply for particularly if you are prepared to change client group.0 -

I have the skills but work part time due to caring commitments ie granny and my mother. I will not apply for redundency they will have to male me redundent0 -
Even though you have worked for your employer for 21 years, statutory redundancy is capped at 20 years. Does your employment contract offer better terms? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

I would double check voluntary vs. compulsory redundancy terms before being set on a course of the latter, i.e. VR terms might be more generous.
Also - how old are you? And, relatedly - have you always been in the pension scheme, i.e. have you never opted out of the LGPS - and when did you first join it...?0
