Temporary Car Insurance in UK with a P2 Australian Probationary Licence
My son passed his driving test in Australia in June 2025 and has a P2 Australian Probationary licence. I want to add him temporarily to my car insurance policy when he visits this month but Viva Zero does not allow this. I cannot find any insurers who will give cover (up to 4 weeks). The issue seems to be a combination of being under 25 (he is 24.5) and has recently passed his test in Australia (one month). Any recommendations for brokers ? (I have tried the following brokers without success : Sterling/HIC, Keith Michaels, Prudent Plus, Veygo and Cuvva and the BIBA website). Very frustrating as most policies are website only with no telephone support. I don't want to hire a car which has been suggested to me. My car is a volkswagen sports van (i.e. a VW golf) which is automatic. Any suggestions welcome - thanks.

I'd have thought that if a number of brokers have been unable to find anything you might be out of luck. Does he have a UK provisional licence? If so then you might be able to add him to your own policy but obviously he wouldn't be able to drive without supervision which I guess is not what he wants. And I doubt if hiring a car would be feasible as the same issues will apply.1

Yes my son has a UK provisional licence over 7 Years. I can get temporary separate standalone learner insurance for a short period (my car insurance provider Aviva Zero does not allow provisional drivers). I can consider this if I cannot get cover for his Australian probationary licence. Thank you for the tip.SiliconChip said:I'd have thought that if a number of brokers have been unable to find anything you might be out of luck. Does he have a UK provisional licence?
