I know we have only just had Christmas but the family all fancy a nice log cabin type holiday for next christmas and I know if I dont find something soon it will all be booked up.
They want big log fire, snow and proper xmas feel. Possibly three seperate families so either a very large accomoodation or something of a village type of setting.
Would prefer to be in Europe as longer flights to canada etc could be a bit much for younger children.
Would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I have the same wish for either Christmas or New Year but have yet to find to find anything. My ideal would be Scotland on the edge of a loch, roaring fire, snow outside and good company.
Good luck with the search .. I'm waiting for the lottery win before I can find my ideal!!!Ken Livingstone is my mother0 -
Thanks for the reply sad-gills-fan, even scotland would be ok for us.
I was hoping that someone might have had our ideal break this year and be full of advice for me.
As yet nothing but hopefully someone will be along soon.0 -
what about lapland?we went with esprit andstayed in an apartment with log burner etc.Wasnt technically a log cabin but the atmosphere as amazing!0

yep i could only think of lapland as snow is a no show at xmas now in scotland!
inghams are quite good for hols to lapland, not as pricey as tour packages are:D

second lapalnd - we were there this christmas in log cabin, roaring fire, snow outside etc
if you want to go for christmas then you need to book now, the best option is to go with crystal or inghams, at the mo, chrystal is coming up much cheaper than inghams as they have child free places
if you want to DIY then you can rent cabins from places like destinationlapland.com or finnishlakesidecabins.com however the flights at that time can be problematic, they don't usually come out until october and can be pricey, you are best getting a package deal, which in some cases is cheaper that DIY0 -
Hi poe.tuesday, love the idea of Lapland, you mentioned crystals do you have a website for them, i tried googling it but no luck
Thanks in advancesomething missing0 -
In Finland, Levi would be a good location for air traveler. Nearby airport of Kittilä has direct flights from UK during the Christmas season. Levi has accommodation from hotels to cottages. I suggest you to stay near Sirkka for the first time, that's where all the services are. When you are more familiar with Levi area, you might find your dream cabin in the woods...

the two main resorts are levi and yllas, yllas is a more traditional lap village and is a quiet resort, levi has a lot more to offer as regards to apre ski, shops etc, my personal choice is yllas btu it all depends on what you want from a holiday
the other option if you want really quiet is to go up as far north as possible to saraselkia (sp) but be careful to check the transfer times as some ski companies fly into kittila rather than the closer airport, the coach journey from kittila to saraselkia is something like 3 hours !
check out tripadvisor - loads on info on there about lapland, the resorts and what to do etc0 -
just to let you know, if you want to book then do it now, crystal have sold out of all their log cabins for new year in yllas and first choice have sold out too, inghams however still have a few places, christmas still has a few places with all 3 companies
they may release some more options later on in the year but who's to say0
