Morning all, it's partly sunny here but seems windy. It rained during the night. Just taken delivery of my food order and it's all now put away . I woke early too Derek so sat reading for a while.Belated birthday wishes @YorksLass.DH has gone off to oversee something on a job, then is going for a much needed haircut. We have to pick DGS up a bit earlier - they are having a visit to his new high school this afternoon and we'll get him from there.I'll let the menfolk decide what to eat later, now the fridge has been restocked.I've just had a look at my birthday date, I think the only name I recognised was Suranne Jones and an older past American PresidentI can't decide whether to clean a rug or chop a rampant hedge at the front now! Perhaps a cuppa first - have a good day:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)9

Phew! All chores are done for today, so now I’m sitting down with a cup of coffee.
We love fried cabbage and onion as an accompaniment to our main meal, but with no cabbage left, and several lettuce leaves which desperately need to be used up, I googled whether or not lettuce can be fried, and apparently so. I’ve never tried it before, so no idea what it will taste like, but I’m willing to give it a go.I’ve tried making lettuce soup in the past, but no-one liked it, and the leaves will probably wilt before the next salad is planned, so I guess there’s nothing to lose by trying. We might be in for a surprise 😊7 -
Morning all, thanks for the start @mehefin. Sorry to hear your resident crows don't wear slippers! My feathered wake-up call is much gentler - the cooing of wood pigeons - although less so this year as a squirrel has taken up residence in their favourite willow tree outside my kitchen.
We didn't get the promised rain yesterday, instead it arrived sometime around 2.30 am with quite a heavy downpour that woke me up (briefly). Lots of drizzle today until late afternoon with much more comfortable temperatures hovering around the 20 deg mark.
Thanks everyone for the birthday greetings. I had a very peaceful day, not a paintbrush/duster/cleaning cloth in sight! It was strange not having a hug from DH but not as bad as I was expecting, so that's another "first" been and gone. DS called in during his lunch break and in the afternoon I had a pleasant walk to a nearby park and treated myself to an ice cream. All in all, a slothful and relaxing day.
Back to normal today and Mr Postie has just delivered a whole load of bumph from the DWP to read through and digest; a quick glance tells me I will get some Pension Credit, a small amount but that's better than nothing.I'll have to send a thank you email to my MP for his intervention as I'm sure I'd still be in limbo if it weren't for that. Tea tonight is fish fingers, either with "something" or in a bap with side salad.
@remmie - The things people say; your DH's suggestion of kyivs made me chuckle!
@TA - Have a good trip to Skipton.
@WL - That's a packed day, I hope you manage to get a parking spot tonight.
@Gers - Glad to hear you've got some decent weather at last!
@Rosy - Cleaning a rug or chopping the hedge? Both sound like good stress busters to me! Cuppa beforehand is a definite must.
@TTB - Fried lettuce? Sounds interesting, let us know how it turns out.
Have a good day all, heartfelt wishes for a good night's sleep for the sleep deprived winging their way. Take care, hugs where needed. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.6 -

Hubby has been fancying eggs and bacon so it’s an easy tea tonight I’m going to have poached eggs on sourdough toast nice and simple. I have some little odds and sods of jobs I must do today things you put off then they catch up with you and when you do them you think why didn’t I just do that earlier. Thinking of all the poorlies hugs to those that need them have a good day everyone whatever you are doing9

Hi @YorksLass 😊
re. fried lettuce.
This was interesting. The lettuce wilted like spinach, and tasted sweet, but it was very nice. I marinated it in a mix of soy sauce and minced garlic, then fried both the lettuce and sliced onions in vegan butter. We would have it again if there was lettuce which needed using up, or if I was out of cabbage. Definitely one to try 😊4
