This is a "fun" one

My Father had Solar Panels fitted in July 2024 (Nationwide Renewables)

Part of the process was supposed to be a switch from BG to Octopus

Before this could happen Rebel called by Father and had him transfer his supply to them

Dad was registered on TPS - he should never have been called.

Rebel spelt my fathers name incorrectly and used an address that was incomplete, no bills were ever received by my Father.

I only learnt of the "switch" in November / December 2024 and called Rebel directly (I had PoA for financial matters) and demanded they put the account back to BG asap as I believed they had taken over the account fraudulently.

The account was not returned to BG until Rebel went into Admin and BG became the SoLR.

I now have copies of the bills that were meant to be sent to my Father and to be honest I'm not inclined to pay them a penny.

Dad actually died in April 2025 just as BG were taking back the supply.

BG have been pretty helpful so far but talking to the BG staff who are currently branding themselves as Rebel to clear things up are quite poor.

I've not had any follow up from Rebel demanding payment and, again, am not inclined to pay them a penny as they should not profit from their unethical actions.

Do you think I can "get away" with offering them part payment to settle the account?

Any other advice or comments would be well received.

Are you the executor of your dad's estate?

If not then it's not really your problem. If you are then it is your legal duty, since you wish to be ethical, to pay all the estate's outstanding debts. If after paying funeral costs there was nothing left, ie. the estate was insolvent, then you just tell that to BG. Your father's debts do not become yours, but as executor you are liable for any mismanagement such as paying bequests when you know a debt is outstanding.

In your position I think I would just keep quiet. If BG do not attempt to recover the debt from the executor of your father's estate for 6 years (5 years here in Scotland) the debt becomes statute barred.

If or when they come asking for the money would be the time to do a deal.

Thanks Alderbank - as my Father didn't leave a Will and I am the eldest Son then I am indeed acting as Executor.

I'l try and not let my anger at the actions of Rebel sway my obligations.

It's going to be hard though.

As administrator of the estate (executors are only appointed by a will) you have an obligation to pay all debts before you distribute the estate. Unless the estate is insolvent then there is no reason this debt should not be paid.
