Hi,
I bought a train ticket to London on thetrainline.com and chose to add a zone 1-3 travelcard to save me time when I get there. I was expecting the standard orange credit card size ticket that you can put through the barrier. However I got two approx 8cm x 20cm tickets - in the same format as the standard train tickets that say from Kings X to zones 123 and vice versa.
I haven't been to London for a while but unless things have changed hugely these won't fit through the barrier. thetrainline.com seem incapable of understanding this either online or at the call centre - in fact they hung up on me.
So can any knowledgeable person in this forum tell me if these can be used on the underground at and if so how? Otherwise I'll have to try thetrainline again....
Please save me from that
Thanks
Karen

Ok
I take it you have airline style (ATB) tickets. These are white with a background.
You can still use the tickets on the underground, however as you said they wont fit the barriers so you will need to speak to a human to be let through the gates.
TheTrainLine.com are known for being completly useless, they outsource their customer services to ..... a far off place not in the UK. Their ticketing software is the worst online (and recently the only one), furthermore they create more problems for the customer (such as your ticket issues).
Next time use NXEC, or select to pick them up at a fast ticket machine (youll get the orange style (APTIS) tickets which will fit through the barriers.Ex-Employee of a Train Operating Company.

Thanks for the reassurance. They are white with a pale blue/pink triangle pattern.
I think next time I'll go to a train station or call someone - trainline seem to supply the online ticket service to virtually everyone else. I forgot to look at NXEC as I haven't needed to travel since they took over from GNER. I shall still write to trainline and moan - I take offence at being hung up on!0 -
Paste from trainline.
Dont forget to mention in your letter some rubbish about how it caused you extra time to be let through by a human on LUL, and how the LUL double/tripple checked it, etc etc.
