Chargeback / S75 won't help either, as the retailer is offering to help - just you don't want the solution they've offered. 

Go with the exchange, see how the replacement is and go from there IMO. 

S75 its irrelevant if the merchant is offering a solution, the merchant and bank are jointly and severally liable, you can't receive a resolution from both however and the merchant is likely to be quicker than the bank

Yes, tried my SIM in the phone and the missus SIM in one of my old ones - the Xiaomi doesn't worth with my SIM but my missus SIM works in my phone, so it's 100% the phone.

Got an RMA authorised a few days ago, they will "assess the fault" and take it from there. I'm doubtful it's easily fixable as similar issues with their phones I've researched require the motherboard replacing, which isn't going to be cheap.
