Thanks everyone. No post so far. I understand unfamiliarity is not the defence, of course. It was a left turn and while I don't have a dashcam, the photos I took after show the sign is slightly turned in the other direction, which made it 'invisible' to me until it was too late. It was around Clapham Common in London and while I saw cameras around there, I'd think they are traffic light cameras. I will sit tight and see what happens next. If I do get anything through the post, I will follow the link provided to the civil penalty charge notices.
To answer the question about whether I got out of the street - no. I turned the car around before parking up, then went down to where I turned into the street to take pictures. I remained parked up in a barking bay until after I'd let the dogs out for a toilet break, then continued on my drive, exiting the one way where I entered it, which was the correct way on exit. Hope that makes sense.1 -
Clapham Common... A very high chance of CCTV enforcement, then! They have 14 days for the initial contact to be received by the registered keeper at the address on the V5C.
The three roads bounding the common are the South Circular, the A3, and the A24.
I'd suggest that the chances of signage being poor turning from any of those into a one-way are very slender.
On a quick look on Google Maps, there are only two one-way-on roads onto those common boundaries - and you'd REALLY be struggling to turn into either of those without the signage and layout being obviously wrong.

He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".1 -
I used to drive a truck for a supermarket and at 2 stores we used to reverse the wrong way along a one way road0

"I've never seen a Barking Bay. "That's a designated bay where the dog(s) may be let loose to have a good old bark. Usually marked as such with a picture of a barking mad dog.1
