Current Account switching question

Hi,
I was just wondering, if I switch current accounts do I have to phone all the companies I've got direct debits/standing orders with to let them know my new account details? That would be a bit of a pain in the neck!

No, the whole point of the switching service is that all DDs are moved across automatically. You're likely to get a load of emails and letters from the companies though.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

ok cool.
I was just wondering as I recently closed down one of my Bank of Scotland current accounts and transferred the direct debits to my other Bank of Scotland current account. And the bank advised me to phone the companies in that case.0 -
If you do a CASS switch between banks, the DD's and SO's will be transferred over automatically. Any transactions on the old closed account are transferred to the new account. In the past even though have done a CASS switch I have contacted the companies to let them know the new bank account details. But I am a belt and braces kind of person. However CASS only works on switches between banks. If you effectively want to make 2 currents into 1 which are both at the same bank, then yes you have to do everything manually and you can't use CASS.0

CASS can only be used to switch accounts between banks, not between 2 accounts at the same bank. As outlined above, if you do a full CASS switch then there's no need to contact any companies to update your DD details manually0
