Hi Tracy,
I'm struggling and have been pretty ill from worry due to debt and fear on the inland revenue my biggest debtor, but you've come to right place. There are many very good advisors on this board who'll be able to help you, so hang in there as once the advice comes in i'm sure you'll feel a lot better when you get a plan together and can see a way forward.

Hi Tracey
A couple of points first -
Are the debts in just your name?
If so - does your husband/partner know about them?
I'm going to assume the answer to both the above is yes - (but if not then a) if the debts are in joint names then ALL the named persons are together jointly and severally liable and not just you. And b) if hubby/partner is not aware of the debt he soon will be, so now's the time to tell him).
Your debts are not colossal - compared to what others here owe they are fairly minor - obviously if you have little or no income then that makes them a bit than minor.
However - you do have one income coming in plus various benefits.
Debt needs to be prioritised. Things like council tax and inland revenue bills etc... can result in prison if not paid. Catalogues and credit cards cannot.
Assuming more important bills have not fallen behind like council tax, rent/mortgage, utilities etc... you need to write a letter to your creditors outlining your income and expenditure. Make them an offer which you can afford to pay. Even if, for the time being it is only £1 per week.
Make sure you ask for interest to be suspended.
KEEP EVERYTHING IN WRITING - THIS MEANS COPIES OF YOUR LETTERS TO THEM AND THEIR REPLIES.
If you don't feel you can take this on you can go to your local CAB whre they can help you and act on your behalf in dealing with the creditors. You need to take with you ALL your paperwork for the loans/catalogues etc...
You will also have to sign a pledge not to go further into debt if you want them to act for you.
By visiting CAB they can also ensure that you are maximising your income and will check that you are getting the correct benefits and entitlements.
You don't need to do this alone - you have already recognised there is a problem. Now you just need to go a step further and act on sorting it out.
Doing nothing is NOT an option.
good luck0 -
Try not to get stressed at the people who are getting at you for money. Their job is to extract as much money from you as they are able to. If they didn't put any pressure on you then they wouldn't be doing their job.
A quick tally gives me income of £141 and Outgoings of £161 (but this is assuming that 1 month = 4 weeks)
The first steps are basic ones, that I'm sure that you've already covered. Trim out anything is isn't absolutely essential (eg, are you tied into Britannia Music). Another is to work your shopping / grocery budget. Take a look at the Old Style board for ideas on how to best use and stick to a tight shopping budget. You could also take a look at the telephone board to make sure that you are getting the cheapest phone calls.
I know it is hard and stressful, but please don't let all of this get you down...its not worth it. At the end of the day if you haven't got it, you can't give it....no matter how much they complain. Don't let these people beat you.
I'm sure more suggestions will be along soon.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

hi tracy,
first DONT PANIC this will just make you unable to deal with it and feel depresesed and stressed as you already are, there are answers and solutions to your situation you need however to ask for help and get some information together to get there.
1. what is your partners income, i know you pay some bills and he pays others but if you live together creditors will want to see a household budget, so use martins budget what is total income, what is total outgoings and what is realistically left over.
2. you need to contact creds (i would suggest through cab or cccs) and get them frozen so they cant grow any more. this often leads to a period when you get lots of letters and phone calls - repeat to all of them that CAB/cccs are helping me and keep your adviser updated of these letters.
Solutions to your problem are likely to be that you tell creds your budget, what you can afford and they accept the offer and regularly review it to see if your circumstances have improved. this time will give you chance to think, clear you head and perhaps return to work.
all of the above is really easy for someone else to do, so take the help and go and get advice.Ready to Go Go!0 -
HI all
thank you for your advice to answer your questions yes my partner knows about my debts and they are in my name only.........
we make sure all the important bills are paid first rent council tax etc............
he only brings home just under 1.000 a month so time we have paid rent etc not a lot left...
i just hope i can get though all this as well as deal with health etc........................
best wishes
