Council Tax Question re Carers and Disabled Daughter

Hi, I have looked to see if anyone has asked similar, can't see it so sorry if this has been covered.
My daughter is now 20, has many special needs, requires 24/7 care and I'm on carers.
A few weeks ago we received a council tax bill stating we owed x amount for the amount. I explained our circumstances, used the online calculator which said full council tax support entitlement. My daughter is classed as LCWRA on her UC and is in the high band on everything on PIP.
Having claimed a carers and MSI council tax discount we still apparently owe around £400 for the year on our council tax. I am confused as I read online on carers websites we should be entitled to a full discount as per recent years. Are the council right, if so is there any other help I can apply for and if not how do I go about sorting it ?
Thanks in advance

Council Tax Discounts are decided nationally.
Council Tax Reduction is decided on at a local level. Each local authority has different rules and is free to change the criteria for full support from year to year.2 -
Thank you. I take all this is because my daughter is now classed as an adult in their eyes ? By your reply does anyone know if there is anything else we are entitled to, ask for as support on this ? Thanks again0

Try a local welfare rights organisation, they will be up to speed on local CT rules, plus anything else you may be entitled to:

Or Carers UK

I am presuming your daughter is SMI and you have claimed this discount for her and also claimed the carers discount as you provide 37 hours of care a week for your daughter?MD46 said:Hi, I have looked to see if anyone has asked similar, can't see it so sorry if this has been covered.

Is there anyone else in your household?1 -
That's right. I have a 15 year old daughter (all fine), I didn't know about the SMI until I read it on here, the council tax team didn't tell me anything of it which makes me wonder if there's more I don't know aboutBlancmang25 said:

Martin Lewis also let's the public know at least a couple of times a year too.
As you have the SMI/carers discount in place you should be billed for 50% of your council tax(daughter 15 disregarded as under 18).
Council tax reduction/ support is means tested(basically your income and that of your daughter). Each local authority administer their own scheme, so you may have to pay something toward your bill.
Your bill of £400 may be because of a non dependent deduction for your daughter. Check with the benefit section in your council. The council tax support should show on your council tax bill.1 -
Thank you. Someone has said i should check if there is a discretionary payment option but I don't think we qualifyBlancmang25 said:

There is: you can apply to the council tax section and request a Section 13A, your local authority should have it on their website. This is quite a hard one to get approved but the LA should explain what the criteria is.MD46 said:

Or you can see if the benefit section have a hardship payment you can request, as long as you are in receipt of Council Tax Support.
You should be able to find this on the LA's website too.1 -
