Morning all - thanks for the start @Scarlet.Thanks for the offer @remmie - we could do with some of that sunshine, it's all going to be in the east today. Yesterday was dry but weird. Warmth without sunshine and barely any wind early on. I did pyjama quick wash, hung them all out and then back in again in about two hours. Last night I had to swap my cotton pj bottoms for the slinky thin ones. And I took off my second layer on top!Today it's very dull, the sky is light grey, don't think that the sun will break through. I've eaten all the delicious lamb leftovers so have taken some chicken out of the freezer to use up.Rod Stewart was entertaining if slightly out of tune. For a man 80 years of age he can certainly rock. The shocks for me were how wrecked Ronnie Wood looked and how fabulous Lulu was. She was on fire. For all that (and the dreadful Dad dancing
) I thoroughly enjoyed his set. I'll catch up with others over the next week or so, anything to avoid tennis and football.
Lunch will be some chicken concoction - perhaps a quick stir-fry for a change. I hope that everyone can find shade and peace. Hugs to all.11 -
Morning all, usual thanks to @Scarlet for today's start. It's a scorchio already - full sun, not a breath of air and temperatures climbing up to 30 deg but feeling like 34 later in the day. I'm glad I'm not holidaying in Europe right now, I don't think I could cope! We complain about the cold/wind/rain and now we're complaining again because it's too hot - we're a contrary lot, aren't we?
I didn't do much at all yesterday - a bit of reading, knitting abandoned in favour of cross stitch, TV, nap in the afternoon, a bit of web browsing etc. I chopped and froze some chilli peppers and did a tidy up of the freezer drawers and that was about it. I didn't watch any Glastonbury stuff but am pleased to hear Sir Rod held his own against the youngsters. Apart from the inevitable wrinkles, he's not really changed much over the years. Speaking of ageing, DS and I were looking through some old photos the other week, one of which is a class one from 70 years ago when I was five. To my surprise, he was able to pick me out straight away. I must be doing something right!
Today will be pretty much the same as yesterday, minus the peppers of course! Salad for tea tonight, ice cream for afters.
@Chrisca - I hope your new reactolite glasses do the trick. I find my eyes are very dry since the op but the daily eye drops sort that out.
@Scarlet - Nice as Beamish is, I think I'd be giving that a miss today too.
@TTB - Thanks for the recipe link, it's always useful to find new ways of using up courgettes, they look fab.
@Coxy - I hope DD's dinner duty stint meets with your satisfaction - it's always good when someone else does the cooking!
Enjoy what's left of the month today, halfway through the year already!Take care all. X
Be kind to others and to yourself too.12 -
Hi everyone,
I'm glad L and B didn't manage to get tickets to Glastonbury this year, I'd have been worried about the children in the heat. As it is we had wall to wall Glastonbury on the TV. Most of it I wasn't impressed but did like Lewis Capaldi, Alanis Morrisette and Pulp.
I've had a quiet few days trying to let my back recover. It's been very frustrating watching the house go to rack and ruin around me.
Laura has just put Esther's hair in bunches for the first time. She has a very odd offset crown so it's difficult but she looks very cute. She asked me to glue something broken and I told her I didn't think I could do she told me to "keep calm and focus".
Have a good day, take care in the heat.

Morning everyone
I haven't been on all weekend as little one has been here for most of it. I managed to get all the weeds out along the paths and drive at the front on Saturday afternoon while little one rode her bike up and down. Afterwards we played games and read books in the summer house.
Yesterday was lovely so, after we'd been down to mam and dads, we went down to the seafront with a picnic. Then she spent ages playing in the splash park, we had an ice cream, then she played in the park. We saw various children from school and nursery - it was busy with lots of tourists as well.
This morning I have, in her words 'a face like a tomato!' ....yes I kept putting suncream on her, but not on my own face.
Today I've pottered doing some jobs, then I'm working at lunchtime. I might pop over the road to see my friend after work.
Snoozer - I bet she looks so cute. I have memories of my mam putting bunches in my hair so tight I could hardly move my head!
Right I'd best get on. Hope everyone has a good day x12 -
News on the job front.
No redundancy IF a new contract is signed at significantly lower hours, and a step down in position. If it’s not accepted, then there’s no job. I don’t know if refusing means becoming intentionally unemployed, and would that affect a U.C claim? I won’t have all the details until later, but now is the time to tighten belts even more.7 -
@themsthebreaks How do these companie get away with treating their employees with such disgusting behaviour. Definitely research before choosing one or the other. Feel for you x7

Hola from Mehefinland
been trying to post on here for the last few days, but after been human checked a billion times the blooming thing wouldn't accept my meagre attempt. I gave up!!
Anyway it seems a little better today so here goes.
Tag end of a heatwave here - drizzle night and morning with a burn off in the middle. Horses couldn't wait to get in out of the flies yesterday - couldn't blame them either.
Went to watch a Pride parade in a local town yesterday lunchtime - a good turnout both parading and watching. Bet they were hot though. It was my burpday too, and it was tinged with sadness as this time last year was the 'big one' . Had a reasonable day overall. Had been dog and house sitting for some friends so was treated to tea when they got back yesterday. Glad it was them and not me travelling in the heat - they had been to Watford which was scorcio even early in the morning. We in contrast, had drizzle, and I was even wearing a coat at 1030 yesterday morning when walking the dogs as it was quite damp.
Hugs and spoons as always

Afternoon all, the day is running away with me. I went for an early walk through the park, then came back down the road and saw a lady I talk to sometimes in her front garden. Her husband is now very limited as to what he can do as he is on oxygen. A few of the neighbours had been asking me about them as we'd seen a doctors car a couple of weeks ago outside but it turns out she was the one going to hospital. We chatted for a bit and I asked after hubby so she invited me in to have a chat & said he'd be glad to see a different face so I did. About an hour passed very quickly and he said call any time
, they always shared my interest in dogs.
@themsthebreaks sorry to hear about your job, Hope you find the answers you're looking for.Sounds like you had a nice weekend @dp1with LO.It is warm today but not as hot as some of you are expecting, the clouds are clearing a bit now.I think we'll be having chicken salad for tea later. Take care in the sun.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)8
