Failed Xbox after 18 months

My Xbox has failed after 18 months, it is completely dead and will not keep powered on. I have gone back to the retailer, and they have said there is nothing they can do as it is out of warranty (only had a 1 year warranty). I’ve quoted sale of good act, and they have said I need to prove it was faulty at point of sale.
Surely I should not have to do this, it should last a reasonable amount of time. Something that cost £500 new should surely last longer than 18 months?! Anything I can do?

You can get a report done showing the fault. It's over 6 months old so they can ask for this.Come on you Irons0

The Sale of Goods Act 1979 was replaced ten years ago by the Consumer Rights Act.
As more than six months have passed since purchase, the onus is on you to prove that the goods were inherently faulty or of insufficient quality at the time of purchase.
With an electronic device, it would be better to do this by asking a suitably qualified expert to produce a report stating the cause of whatever is wrong with it.0 -

"Prove" is a bit strong, though. You just need someone suitably qualified to say it's probable that the fault was inherent and bound to occur prematurely.0 -
