Credit card application

Options
Hi, I've just been on the MSE website to check  my Halifax credit card is still a good option to use abroad.

I see it charges nearly 3% above the exchange rate, so I checked my eligibility for Barclaycard, as recommended by MSE.

I have just retired. If I put my income from employment as £0 and my pension amount in other household income, I get 0% chance of approval.

If I put my pension amount in income from employment and £0 in other household income, I get 100% pre-approved, however, my pension is not income from employment.

Please advise how I should proceed.

I can't answer your question, but you can try asking Halifax to change your CC to Clarity: https://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/travel.html
ETA: you can do this in your online account:
Our products and services >> Credit cards >> Swap an existing card
    "Apply to swap your card

    Why swap your card?

By swapping your card for another you can continue to use 1 credit card that fits your current needs."

It's not clear which eligibility checker you are referring to, the MSE one or the Barclaycard one. And in both cases there are further choices as to card before the checker can be completed.

    Which form are you completing?

These eligibility checkers are not infallible - as suggested you should consider the Halifax Clarity CC, assuming that's not the one you already have.

To echo this, go into the Halifax app and you can apply to change the card type - I did this for a 20 odd year old Halifax card and was switched without fuss as I didn't need the old card.

Pension is income though may be best to check with the bank terms if they accept the pension as income or how they want it

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
