Missed Car recall

In 2020 I bought a 16 plate Citroen Grand Picasso which had low mileage and has only been driven about 8k a year since - without issue.

Last year I had to a Urea (AdBlu) and EM light come on dashboard, and wouldnt clear. After inspection by local dealer garage it turns out this is due to a faulty pump/sensor on the urea tank and remedy is to replace the entire tank and pump/sensor unit (its all combined) at a cost of about £2k.  There was a recall for this issue, but the recall was only valid for cars under 8 years old and at the time of diagnosis ours was 8yr 5 months and had only lasted that long due to the low mileage...

I tried to complain both to the garage and Citroen but neither were for moving as the system wouldnt let them credit the recall against my car due to the age and the garage wouldnt do the work due to likely Citroen not treating it as a recall.

As such I opted for the s/w update which "might" resolve the issue... which it did for a year but now again we have Urea and EM lights on some days, and off others.

Dont suppose theres any suggestions for recourse against Citroen. It seems off that a low mileage driver is penalised... and how should I have known about said recall?

Should've checked for any recalls when you purchased the vehicle, read the Citroen forums online or simply visit any Citroen dealer.

    I have a Peugeot 5008 1.6Bluehdi.
Same tank, same issue near on 2 years ago.
I had extended the Peugeot main dealer warranty.
There was no recall for my car, but a known fault.

I've read in a few places this might help.
    Thinking of getting some myself.

The supplying dealer should have checked for recalls. But its way too late now, obviously. I don't think there's any responsibility on Citroen to do anything, 8 years is a pretty long time for one of them to last.

Is it a safety item? There are two types of recall. One is where a manufacturer identifies a fault (non safety) and decides to recall the vehices within a certain ra no 11255 and 17898 range and repair FOC For example Veh No 11255 to 17898manufacture.. It only applies to those. The second is where DVLA order a recall for safety reasons. Thde manufacturer needs permiission to close the recall however from exparience if a vehicle within that range suddenly turns up then they will do it as a goodwill gesture. Technically a vehicle with an outstanding safety recall should not pass its MOT

Could always try the Consumer Rights Act  from the dealer you bought from. As over 6 months the burden of proof in on you to show it was faulty at time of purchase, but you do have the recall notice (dealer should have got if fixed as known fault).
