Travel insurance cover for post-cruise land tour

We have annual multi-trip travel insurance with Saga - have had it for a few years. In 2027 we are planning a cruise taking in the Chilean Fjords and want to add on an independent (of the cruise company) land tour. This part of the holiday will include flights to Easter Island and Atacama, accommodation and tours - and it will be very expensive. I contacted Saga to check if (assuming we renew our policy next year) we would be be able to recover the costs of the land tour in the unlikely eventuality of the cruise being cancelled, or itinerary completely changed, or diverted meaning that we didn't end up at the final port on the right date to pick up the onward part of our holiday. Reading the policy, this appears to be covered under Abandonment or Cancellation - but I simply cannot get a straight answer. The underwriter just says that it would be up to the discretion of the claims department. This isn't sufficient assurance to give me confidence in making the booking for the holiday.
Obviously, the solution is to stick with a land tour organised by the cruise company - but they are double the price, and not exactly what we want.
I am tearing my hair out! Has anyone had a similar experience or found a solution to a similar problem?

No one will ever give you absolute certainty a claim will be covered until it's been made as there are potentially millions of different combinations and permutations of what can happen which may influence the decision. In some cases you can read the policy book and have a reasonable idea for yourself.
Which version of the Saga policy do you have as they have multiple levels https://www.saga.co.uk/travel-insurance/existing-customers
Having a Quick Look at a few of them the Missed Departure does vary, some are clear its only the inwards and outwards flights and not intermediary ones but others are not so clearly worded. Its also not great from an abandonment perspective of if you have a claim were acquiring alternative flights not being an option.
If it's an expensive trip it may be worth considering buying a more specialist single trip policy for it.1 -
Thank you. It is an expensive trip - not sure where to go for a specialist single trip policy. Comparison websites don't seem to offer single trips so far in advance - but I may not have been looking properly.0
