Would I need a building warrant?

I have a rental tenement property built in late 1800s. The building was renovated in the 1980s, before I bought it, when the layout was reconfigured. Basically you need to go through living room to get to the bedroom. If I took some space from the living room to create a new extra small hallway so that the living room and bedroom have their own separate doorways, would I need a building warrant? The living room is large so there's plenty of space to play around with. Property is in Glasgow.

You can download the building regs. (sorry, can't link. Look up domestic technical handbook )

But I think you would. Not in terms of structure, but because it affects the overall fire performance of the building, plus there are minimum hall widths and things you need to comply with. There used to be a duty officer you could ask for advice, but I'm not sure if Glasgow still has one (yay for cost cutting) might be worth checking Building Standards on the city council website and giving them a call.

If you do need a warrant then an architectural technician should be able to do the drawings for you at a lower cost than an architect.
