Since coming back the company have refused any form of compensation, to be clear we aren't trying to claim the £1700 ticket price back, just some for the mess they had made and the photos we had lost
Although the item they claim was "free", it didn't work and as it was part of the deal surely they have some obligation to provide a working service?
So you weren't able to get into the park with the tickets? That would be the only reason to get a full refund.

You MIGHT be able to argue the difference in ticket price from what you paid and what others were offering the tickets for without the "Gift" but sure as hell not the full price.

Ultimately you need to check the T&Cs that you agreed to be bound by from the seller. Where is the seller based and which legal jurisdiction are they covered by?  Many companies will say that "free gifts" are subject to availability etc and dont warrant the gift only the main purchase.

Maybe if I asked the question where do I stand from a legal point of view? Rather than go into details, it may also help others more.
They say as it's "free" they have no obligation to offer anything and it's "thanks and goodbye".
As I said above, you're entitled to whatever loss you've suffered as a result of a breach of contract.  That appears to amount to approximately £60 but it's not entirely clear because you're comparing an inflated ticket price with a free gift to a standard ticket from different retailers, i.e. you aren't able to accurately put a value on the magic bands.
