E-bay returns

My son purchased a fridge through a seller on e-bay.  He didn't use it within 30 days (it was 38 days) but when he did use it, it didn't work.  The seller is refusing a return/refund.  He tried E-bay but they won't help either. What are his rights>

Was this a business seller or a private one?

Was it new or used?
Was it sold as working?
It does make some difference if the seller was private or a business but with a fridge you should expect it to be working longer than 30 days so I'm guessing there's a bit more to it.
As the opening post stands there isn't enough information to say what his rights are.

OP has only posted one other thread and never gone back to it, so unless they return to update this, I fear we can’t offer any meaningful advice.
