My car insurance was cancelled 2years ago and I owed £260 I phoned Hastings up and payed the full amount and was told that was the end I recently joined ClearScore and it was showing I had missed payments of £67 pound for 2years this was Hastings insurance so I have messaged them and ask for proof of the telephone call and letters they said they have sent they said I have to tell them when I phoned to pay the debt off because it was over 2years ago they would need a date is this down to me or hasting to find the date of the call because I believe I have paid this 2years ago should I stand my ground or should I spend hours searching telephone records and bank statements my self

Well Hastings should be able to search their records based on you rather than the payment. But it sounds like they are unwilling so to clear this up I'd suggest going through your bank statements (or credit card?) to find the payment to give them a target date. Phone records may be trickier - I don't have statements for calls for my mobile but do for my land line. Whether I can access them 2 years after the fact might be a problem. But again if you find the payment date from your bank statement then you can ask the phone company/provider for copies of the bills around that date. Obviously you may be charged for doing so. And if so I would then suggest including this in a complaint that you would raise with Hastings about what they have messed up.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
