Proof of address

Options
We are moving from London to Edinburgh. Plan is to sell our house (currently going through solicitors) and then move in with in-laws whilst we find a home in Edinburgh. I guess when we find a home up there we will need to have proof of address for mortgages and solicitors. How do we do this when living with in-laws temporarily? Anything I should do whilst we currently have our house to help? Thanks

I would change your address to the in laws' on things like bank statements etc immediately and ensure you get paper copies so that they are arriving asap.

Yes, this. Mobile PAYM bills are another to change address on PDQ. Any ID checks will pick up on your current London address as a previous abode. Assume you both have passports as standalone ID?

Another is driving licence. You can do that pretty much anytime and it's FREE. It's not an offence to have a DL at someone else's address, it just needs to be at an address you can be contacted on. And your V5c if you have a car.

Make sure you use the gov.uk link as there's a few dodgy sites out there - https://www.gov.uk/change-address-driving-licence
