Can I check what the laws are on retailers if I wanted to pay for a brand new car on my credit card?
Are they allowed to charge additional fees for using a credit card?

I seem to remember a law change back around 2018 whereby retailers were no longer allowed to charge fees but can’t remember the exact ruling and if it applies to me on this occasion.
Can anyone clarify?

No they can't charge a fee.  But the vast majority will not accept a credit card for more than a deposit of under £1K.  Some though will add a fee, your choice to accept the fee or pay by other means.

A fee can only be charged if the card is associated with a business account, if it is a personal card then charged a fee is not allowed.

Good luck finding a dealer that will take full payment for a brand new car on a CC.
Most are bank transfer now & a deposit via card.

They're not allowed to charge a fee for using a personal credit card, they can if it's a business card.
But the vast majority of dealerships will simply refuse to accept a card for anything more than a small deposit, due to the fees they get charged by the card issuer - which is calculated as a percentage of the transaction value.
