We've also got a P-Touch hand held labelmaker but got a mains power unit for it as it can eat batteries. I've got stuff outside that I labelled 15 years ago and they are still stuck and still very legible.

I've also got a USB connected one as well which, if you put some effort in, you can automate with Excel.

Proper Brother tape is probably better especially if you really want longevity or for special purposes but we get good results with cheaper stuff from Amazon.

Like others, I try to print several labels in series with a couple of spaces in between and separate them with scissors to avoid the cut-off waste at each end of a print run.

If I label wires I wrap them like a flag  although when I was at work we had self laminating labels which had a clear portion which wrapped over the printed area to hold and protect it.

The Brother P-Touch has been around about as long as the Dymo D1 has. Both are good systems.

Just to complete the picture, Dymo also make paper label printers that connect to the computer. These are great for anywhere a paper label will do. The paper labels are pretty cheap too.  Labelwriter 550 for example.  Plastic labels available if preferred, but at a price.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
