Credit score updates for mortgage application

I need some advice, I had over £8k worth of debt spread over 10 accounts, I cleared them all in one day on June 2nd 2025. I'm am trying to secure a mortgage,  but none of the credit scores have been updated as yet. Does anyone know how long it takes or if I can do something to move it along so I can get my house

They mean their internal one, the one you see on Clearscore etc....they dont see.

They look at the data on the credit file. Do the balance show as settled there? If not you have to wait, you cant accelerate it as far as I know

What's essential is your credit history.  Now I've known some that take up to 3 months to update so what yours may be showing right now is what was happening March/April rather than a couple of weeks back.  It's all dependent on when companies supply the info to the credit agencies.

But this shouldn't be a big problem as long as there aren't a lot of scary things on your history.  Things like no payments being made on a number of accounts, lots of credit checking, no evidence that you're registered to vote.  The type of accounts might be important too.  Loans with banks, maybe a Barclaycard plus a Halifax CC, a small overdraft that is only occasionally used.  That will be ok.  If however it's lots of catalogues, multiple phone contracts, overdraft always maxed out, CCJs lurking in the background - those will make you look more of a risk.

The good thing is that buying a property doesn't happen overnight so there's time for your credit history to look a bit more rosy.  Is there any low market cards you don't need that you can close?  (Vanquis, Aqua - the sort that charge very high interest).  Any catalogues that you aren't going to use anymore?  (Very, Freemans, etc) Close them too.  Can you reduce your overdraft?

What you want to show is that you are a good responsible citizen who is happy and able to pay their bills, including that big mortgage you want to get.

Good luck with your home buying!!!

The one thing that might help is if you are applying to a bank where most of your debt was previously.  So if Barclays isn't happy with you I suspect you didn't have a Barclaycard that you paid off.  A bank can see a lot of your recent history if you actually bank with them.  So if you paid off a Halifax CC and had a current account with Halifax and then applied for a mortgage with Halifax all that would be visible to them.

Generally though it's rarely just one thing so I'd suggest waiting a few weeks at the minimum, check to see if your credit history has updated and then think about where you might be best to apply.  If you continue to have problems you might need a mortgage broker to help handle the situation for you.

I've literally paid and closed them all, so nothing left to clear down. I'm only in slight panic mode as my offer got accepted 4 weeks ago, but trying to get a mortgage with some poor advice has been a bit difficult,  I'm hoping most will update on 30th as stated so I can try and proceed. I worry if it's another 2/3 weeks I will lose the property
