Buying 4 yr old car - been in dealer's hands 12 months & warranties?

Dealers would normally be getting  ready to move it on if its still sitting at 90 days, either look at trade contacts or sling it to auction, still on sale at 12 months is unusual imho.

Proceed with caution and eyes open.

If you can find someone with VCDS ask the dealer if they would permit a scan of the vehicle.

Not impossible, though.  I once bought a car that had been with the dealer for a year.  If you looked closely at the sides of the car after washing it, you could see the ghost of the dealer's name.

They had obviously bought it second-hand from the lease company and then sign written it for use as a loan car for a year.
