Returned parcel missing

I returned an item over a week ago using a label supplied by the retailer( they take £3 off the refund to cover this)

The item tracking seems to be stuck  since Monday with no updates   but royal mail don't know exactly where and the retailer hasn't received it. 

It is an expensive item £300 . I'm worried it has been lost.

Am I correct in thinking the retailer who supplied the label is responsible and should refund me as they have the contract with R/M

Yes, they contracted with the courier, the item became their responsibility the point at which you handed it over (presumably at the post office?).  If it gets lost in transit, then this is their problem, not yours.

If you have proof that you handed it over (and if there is tracking info, then it sounds like you do) then you should be fine.

They should refund you within 14 days of posting.
