Downpipe repair

Hi
I had a downpipe rain water diverter fitted for a water butt few years ago, which meant cutting the downpipe.
Now I have got a bigger and taller water butt which would mean the diverter (and cut in downpipe) needs to be higher.
My question is how do I repair the previous diverter site?
Once i cut the pipe higher and insert the same diverter,I could move the pipe downwards and thus previously made gap of 4 cm or so should be sorted. How do I make it water tight?
many thanks

If you look at DP unions/connectors, you'll see that they have a wider top which takes the upper DP, and a narrower bottom which fits inside the lower DP.
That's all it needs to direct the water - it doesn't have to be sealed.

Have a look at downpipe pipe sockets of the appropriate profile.
