ESA /UC

Options
Hi

my husband is currently being migrated from ESA to UC He is currently in the support group of ESA . however today a letter arrived saying that he is being awarded new style ESA and has to attend work focus assessment even though he’s currently in the support group. I was under the understanding because he was in the support group he wouldn’t need to attend any meetings as ihe would be simply transferred over to UC is correct .

If part of his UC award was contributions based ( it appears this is the case) then this now transfers to new style ESA and will be paid separately to your joint UC claim and deducted in full.. I have no idea why they have mentioned work focused assessment. he may need to undergo a short phone call for the new new style ESA claim. He should just let them know he is in the support group. You need to make sure that the LCWRA element is listed in the statement for your joint claim.

It's a standard letter designed to communicate with people making a brand new claim.
    He is a transfer.
Call will be short and sweet, his only commitment will be to keep them informed of any changes same as with UC.

I had this barely a 10min call and the first thing they said was I'd not be hearing from them again.

They just read out a lot of stuff which you have to respond to with yes or no.
  • Thank you so much , I was so confused I thought we was going onto UC but then got a letter saying we was going on new style ESA I’ve never heard of it . Then we got a separate letter with a date to see a work coach even though his in the support group . It’s all so very stressful and making everything much more difficult.
