                    Hi
Would appreciate any help with Cifas Warning please.
Someone recently used my details to buy iPhone at John Lewis.
They set up credit account with company called Creation. I noticed after first monthly repayment was taken from bank account.
Creation has refunded the money and sent me letter to say they've set up Cifas Warning. I've done some research and it sounds like could be nightmare applying for future credit cards etc.
Creation said I should contact them if I don't warning to be recorded.
Obviously I'm worried someone could try again and would like extra protection/checks but don't want to create problems in the future.
Anyone had similar experience/advice please?
Thanks

The cifas warning will likely be a protective warning that you have been the victim of impersonation. You can check with cifas what warnings have been addedpedro789 said:Hi

i would set up a password on your credit file that you will have to give whenever you apply for credit, it will stop this happening again.
Was there any name or address given of who made this purchase? Have you given your card details to any or lost your card?1 -

You probably want to double check what they are proposing...pedro789 said:Would appreciate any help with Cifas Warning please.

It could be they are offering you a free two year protective registration; this in theory means that any cifas member should make more detailed checks before offering you credit etc because you are perceived to be at a higher risk of identify theft. In principle anyone can register for this, given the number of large data breaches recently.
The other is that they intend to load a temporary (13 months) marker that you have been a victim of fraud. Normally you wouldnt have a choice if they do this or not. If you apply to a member of CIFAS with this then according to CIFAS their system should instruct them not to automatically reject the application but to make further enquiries.
In principle neither should prevent you getting credit but may mean some straight through processing will fail and go to a referral. As long as it is you applying the outcome should be the same but may just be slower.6
