Travel insurance - split policies between travellers

Options
Hi all. I think I have found similar articles saying I should be fine, but I wanted to check if anybody has any real experience - ie. you've been in this situation and claimed on policies?
Short scenario is, I booked all inclusive for a week in Tunisia for me, my wife, 2 kids, and mother in law. Due to the family policy being so expensive and complicated when I added the mother in law, I took a different policy with a more specialist cover provider for medical conditions, and so I have her on a policy as a solo traveller from insurer A, and me, wife, kids on a family policy from insurer B.
I paid for the holiday in full on my credit card. Mother in law contributed for 1/4 of the bill (it was a free child's place so 4 paying essentially) but paid by cash.
Is there going to be a potential issue with this? Her name is clearly on the booking etc, it's just technically she has no invoice for her part of the charge of the holiday, equally I don't have a split either. I asked Tui to send me an email confirming this though. TIA!

Check that both policies cover costs when you aren’t able to travel due to people you are travelling with not being able to go.

The problems arent what you think... travellers not payers are covered by travel insurance so, if we ignore the complexity of kids, if 5 people were going and the whole trip is cancelled each would need to claim 20% of the total bill irrespective of how much each person actually paid. So from that perspective splitting the insurance won't be a problem.

Your problem is your MiL's pre-existing conditions arent going to be covered by your policy, in almost all cases. So she's ill due to a pre-existing condition a week before you travel are you still going to go and leave her behind? She would be able to claim for her losses but you wouldnt be able to claim for yours because her conditions cannot be declared on your policy.

Does the MiL live with you? In most cases Family policies need all residing at the same address and its a Group policy for those living at different addresses.

The other relatively minor problem is that with 2 policies there will be 2 deductibles if/when you claim.

The excess is typically per claimant so doesnt make any difference

Thanks all - no notifications and I almost forgot I’d posted this 🤦🏻‍♂️ MiL doesn’t live with us, I honestly didn’t think it through properly but I was very tricky to get a group policy I think next time I search a bit harder for more POM!
